If you are looking for work in Maroochydore there are currently positions available at the Maroochy RSL Events Centre. The RSL is located on the same street as the new GV Maroochydore school.

To be considered you must have:

A current Queensland RSA certificate
To be team orientated
Have a willingness to work hard and under pressure
Ability to deliver great customer service
Aptitude for learning and the ability to be cross trained in other areas.
Previous experience is preferred but not essential
Ability to carry 3 plates

This job will also allow you to gain experience in a wide variety of different functions and events including Gala Dinners, Weddings, Conferences, Seminars & Exhibitions. Working hours are for weekends and nights.

FCE – What it’s been like for me

“I came to Australia essentially to improve my English in order to take, and possibly pass, the First Certificate of English exam. So, what was better than enrolling at Global Village to prepare for the exam?

My first week here was very hard because I wasn’t accustomed to the new reality and I was really affected by jet lag. However, our lovely teachers (Adi and Nathalie) helped me a lot to increase my self-confidence, especially concerning speaking. Indeed, the test consists of five parts (reading, writing, listening, use of English as well as speaking) and that was my worst skill.
Everyday, for twelve weeks, during our lessons we practiced a part of the exam. I reckon that this is the best way to be ready for the final test. In addition to this, after school we had very useful homework to do.
Despite having studied hard, I really enjoyed my experience at GV because classes weren’t boring and we did loads of interactive activities. On top of that, room for laughter wasn’t lacking and I met several new friends.

I also had the opportunity to travel a little during the weekends. About this, here I have to mention the unforgettable trips to Fraser Island and to Australia Zoo that I went on with Gustavo.
I’m writing this article after having done my speaking exam in Noosa. Thanks to GV it wasn’t so bad…at least I hope so!”

Maroochydore Orientation Day

Last week’s orientation day was a big success; students loved their new school and are looking forward to starting there next week.

The afternoon picnic in Cotton Tree park was also a highlight, students can look forward to many more BBQ’s and activities by the calm beach. Students were also happy to discover that there is a little more nightlife around Maroochydore with some not arriving home till 4am!

We can’t wait to see you all on Tuesday morning at our brand new school!

It was a great experience. I have studied before at another English language school and when I compare schools, Global Village is so much better! A special thanks to my teacher, Andy, for his commitment and patience. And also a big thank you to Maddy for the extra activities that were all well organized and interesting! The atmosphere in Global Village is fantastic and it felt a lot like home.

World Environment Day Celebration

The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival (30th Anniversary) is a free community festival celebrating World Environment Day in the region of the Sunshine Coast; running into its 30th anniversary celebration, the Festival provides a multiplicity of environment related activities. These include short film, speakers forums, Green Biz (corporate) Expo, Low CO2 displays, Farmer’s Market, Transition Town, Main stage entertainment of world music, youth and Indigenous performances, Children’s area, interactive and Ecology workshops, Youth Chill out zone and much, much more!

Public transport is easy to catch from Caloundra to the University of the Sunshine Coast. If you havent been to see the university yet this is a great opportunity, plus you might be lucky enough to meet some of the local kangaroos that live on and around the university grounds.

There will plenty to see and do, the festival runs from 9am till 4pm.

So Many Pancakes!

Seeing that it’s getting colder in the mornings and harder to get out of bed students were bribed into coming to school early for a free breakfast. On the menu were yummy pancakes, they were so good that teachers had to drag students away! Luckily more pancakes were cooked during the morning break so everyone got to enjoy them with their favourite toppings.

Some brave boys hit the chilly waters of Happy Valley yesterday for a surf lesson. Teeth were chattering and bodies were shaking but you couldn’t miss the smiles on their faces. It should also be noted that Maddy was brave enough to get in and take the photos!

Orientation Day Information

This Thursday the 3rd of June is Orientation Day at our new Maroochydore campus. Morning classes will be as usual and all students who are going to Maroochydore are expected to be in class till lunchtime. A bus will be leaving Caloundra campus at 12.30pm, students should be waiting outside the reception area. We will arrive at Maroochydore at approximately 1.15pm and start a tour of the new Maroochydore School. One student from each class will be nominated to choose their new classroom.

After the tour students will make there way to Cotton Tree Park for a late BBQ lunch, kayaking on the Maroochy River, soccer game and beach volleyball. Students may wish to bring a light lunch or snack to have earlier as the BBQ will not be till approximately 2pm.

After the BBQ finishes a 5pm bus will be taking the students who nominated to return to Caloundra earlier back to the Caloundra Campus. The students who decided to stay on for student night activities will stay on with Maddy. If you are staying later you must bring money to buy your own dinner (there are plenty of places that are inexpensive) and also money for your own alcoholic drinks. There is a bottle shop close by if you wish to purchase your own. Students will start the night playing some fun drinking games before heading to Beach House Bar and Grill and the Pig ‘n’ Whistle for cheap drink specials and karaoke followed by student night at Club Envy.

The final bus will pick up students at 11pm outside of Club Envy, if students wish to stay on they must find their own transport home.

GV Farewells

Last week GV Caloundra farewelled Riccardo, Thomas, Glauteice, Mayra, Fernanda and Aon. The intermediate class decided the best way to farewell their friends was to come to school wearing their pyjamas. The school will be rather quiet now, especially with Riccardo and Thomas leaving… at least we wont have to see them in bikini’s again!

Students also enjoyed dinner out at Velvet Waters Rock ‘n’ Roll Resaurant in Caloundra which for the intermediate class was the prize for winning the Super Class Challenge earlier this month.

We wish all the students best wishes in the future and hope they all keep in touch.
